Turntabling Records

May 13, 2012 News No Comments

Welcome to the new home of The Turntabling Collection, Turntabling.net’s ever-growing vault of vinyl records and compact discs.

In the last three years, Turntabling.net has taken this collection on the road to horror conventions including Flashback Weekend, Horrorhound, Cinema Wasteland and many others, selling rare, weird, unclassifiable and just-plain-awesome music to fellow collectors and fanatics.

Selling records is a fundraising effort for Turntabling and many have supported the blog with their vinyl and CD purchases over the years–we thank you! You are the reason Turntabling is still alive and kicking today.

But Turntabling is primarily a vinyl blog, not a record store and we didn’t want to clutter up the blog with all the retail stuff required to sell these records. So we decided to set up shop here and list the entire collection over time for sale–again, to fund Turntabling and keep it running well into the future.

In the coming weeks and months you will find hundreds of cool, rare, hard-to-find and jaw-droppingly weird vinyl listed for sale here. All checkouts are done securely via PayPal and we offer a satisfaction guaranteed policy that we’ll describe in full before a single thing goes up for sale here.

Music available on our micro-label will still be offered here, but you’ll see a big emphasis on amazing vinyl and CDs. Thank you in advance for your support of Turntabling.net by visiting and shopping here.

Paisley Babylon Vs. Thelema USA: Golden Dawn

Not really a music video as such, more just a way to get this Paisley Babylon Vs. Thelema USA track in front of more people. It’s an excerpt of the longer track, but still a decent three minutes of trippiness from Paisley Babylon and Thelema USA.

This is the track Golden Dawn, which appears in a slightly different version by Thelema USA on the Electronic Sadism album released on iTunes earlier in 2011.

The artwork seen in the video clip is by Joe Wallace–one of the images became the cover art for the Zombie Records compilation Lo Fi Classics Volume One, which was released on Turntabling Records via iTunes.

More vids–and some actual production values–from Turntabling Records projects are coming soon…in the meantime, here’s Golden Dawn, an Aleister Crowley inspired electronic opium trip atop the magick carpet of sound.

Turntabling Records Video Productions

August 8, 2011 Paisley Babylon No Comments

Turntabling Records has finally gotten around to producing some music video clips for Youtube and elsewhere and will be posting them in this space soon. Paisley Babylon is the first of the Turntabling roster to get the video treatment, aside from one or two clips for Electronic Penis Choppers which already existed prior to the new projects.

There is some activity on the Paisley Babylon front as recording has resumed on the new Paisley record after a bit of a hiatus due to funding issues. Stay tuned for more news on Paisley Babylon and other projects…

Here is the “underground” Electronic Penis Choppers video for “Sex Bandsaw” in the meantime, which features loads of exploitation horror imagery…fun stuff to assemble as an experiment for later video collages and multi-media barrages.

Here is a collection of most of the current roster of Turntabling Records projects, collected in one handy place for your MP3 downloading pleasure. If you are a fan of Legendary Pink Dots, Flaming Lips, Coil, Nurse With Wound, Brian Eno, Skinny Puppy, Test Department, Throbbing Gristle or similar legendary names, you owe yourself a listen to these titles.

There is much in the way of electronic strangeness, hallucinatory madness, ambient nightmares and experimental dancefloor research going on here. Turntabling Records projects are definitely NOT your dad’s electronic music. These are transmissions from outer space. Doctor Who, not Star Wars. Think THX 1138 rather than Battlestar Galactica.

Paisley Babylon Working on Massive New Record

February 21, 2011 Paisley Babylon No Comments

Turntabling Records is pleased to announce a massive new project by Paisley Babylon, with 20 tracks recorded so far and climbing. The new album, which has yet to be titled, is edgier and noisier than previous releases–so much so that the band has decided to include a warning label on the new album. “All Sounds Intentional” will be prominently displayed on the album packaging.

This is Paisley Babylon’s fourth full-length release following 2010′s Songs From The Interstellar Hash Bar Jukebox, the 2007 album Midnight Hallucinations and 1997′s CD-only The Alpha Wave Variations.

According to founding member Joe Wallace, fans of Nurse With Wound, Coil, Nine Inch Nails and Stereolab will find some darkly fascinating common ground on the new Paisley Babylon album. “This one is a departure from the previous Paisley Babylon albums–there’s more noise, but also some dancefloor sensibility that might take old Paisley listeners by surprise. Aphex Twin might be a fair comparison for some of these tracks, perhaps after a viewing of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”

Paisley Babylon has never shied away from the darkness–the opening of PB debut The Alpha Wave Variations includes newscaster voices discussing grave robbing and cannibalism, while tracks like “Burning Appliances Give Off Toxic Fumes” from the Midnight Hallucinations album operated on a David Lynch-style dream logic.

The new record does not have a release date, but a trailer is in the works and should be released soon.

Aleister Crowley Artifact by Thelema USA

February 11, 2011 Thelema No Comments

Thelema USA has been very active since releasing their debut  album, Music For Ritual. This track, Aleister Crowley Artifact, is featured on that album but the group has been toiling away in the studio creating new sonic atmospheres for the next release tentatively called The Dark Rites of Eros.

Thelema USA is inspired by the autobiography of Aleister Crowley, Perdurabo, written by Richard Kaczynski, PhD.

The group won’t confirm or deny  Crowley connections, saying they prefer to keep their beliefs and practices quiet, but they do admit a fondness for Current 93, Coil, Nurse With Wound and other related projects.

Brown Alert by Paisley Babylon

January 10, 2011 Paisley Babylon No Comments

In 1999-2000, Paisley Babylon was in Iceland, recording tracks that would eventually become the Midnight Hallucinations album. Part Eno, part Tones On Tail, and part Stereolab, Brown Alert is the sort of music that Paisley Babylon founder Joe Wallace says could only be made with the right combination of sleep deprivation and cabin fever you get in the dead of winter in Iceland.

“I was in the Air Force at the time, working as a reporter and DJ on Naval Air Station Keflavik. In the middle of winter you get about four hours of twilight per day and the rest is dark. Combine that with 30 mph winds and sideways snowstorms and you spend a lot more time in the recording studio than you normally would. Brown Alert was influenced by all sorts of deprivation–sleep, sun, human contact, just a reflection of my general state of mind at the time, really.”

Brown Alert is a track that Wallace says probably shouldn’t be listened to while driving or operating heavy machinery, but then again he says that about much of his music. Turntabling Records presents the track in its entirety here as a free download.

Download the Brown Alert .mp3 by Paisley Babylon.

If you are intrigued by the track, please investigate the rest of the Paisley Babylon Midnight Hallucinations album on iTunes.

It’s entirely possible your brain will be re-wired and deprogrammed by these sounds, please listen at your own risk.

Mutations by Goop

January 9, 2011 Goop No Comments

Goop was a very ahead-of-its-time new wave revival outfit back in the late 1990s. Members of this Texas-based group were in Crevice, Pink Filth, Mission Giant, Paisley Babylon and other projects in and around San Antonio, Texas.

One of THE quintessential tracks from this Texas New Wave band was the track Mutations. Found on the band’s only official release, Synthetic Reasons, Mutations has that 80s synth-pop vibe so well loved by fans of the skinny ties and artificial sounds.

Founding maniac Joe Wallace says of Mutations, “We were in the studio right before the Xmas holiday season and looking for a way to get weird with this little keyboard riff I’d written ages and ages ago. The band had been discussing what happens inside your body after a lifetime of artificial flavors, colors and preservatives. ”

“Since I’d been watching a LOT of David Cronenberg movies at the time, especially Videodrome over and over again, the idea that these colors and other additives might be turning us into post-apocalyptic mutants ready to sprout third eyes and tentacles seemed pretty damn near reasonable.”

Mutations is probably one of the most restrained tracks on the record, but definitely warped enough for any fan of Wall of Voodoo, Butthole Surfers, or Devo. You can hear a sample of Mutations at the Goop iTunes page or purchase the whole Synthetic Reasons album.

An early, primitive version of Mutation’s basic song structure showed up on a Paisley Babylon cassette-only release in 1997 called Synthetic Noises for Beginners, but was never released on CD. That song was focused on zombies, open graves, and grave robbing–standard fare for Paisley Babylon at the time.

Sadly, Goop didn’t release another album–they were a one-off project that finally saw the light of day after nearly a decade of lingering in obscurity…now Goop has been unleashed on the world thanks to iTunes and Turntabling Records.

Turntabling Records Presents Thelema

December 1, 2010 Thelema No Comments

Turntabling Records presents a nine-track digital album by THELEMA USA. Thelema is an electronic act from Chicago working in what they call “the same vein as Coil”, which in this case means electronic experimental music with esoterica/occult influences. Crowley seems to be a major factor in all this, and it will be interesting to see what the response is to this next wave of Golden Dawn inspired electronica. Stay tuned for a track listing, album art and much more.

Thelema USA’s first album is called MUSIC FOR RITUAL and features nine tracks including “Music For Conjuring”, “Crowley Artifact”, “The Mind After Death” and “How To Prepare For Astral Journeys”.
